Honda Documentary: The Power of Dreams

Synopsis: Honda is a company founded by a dreamer. And we are a company that believes in the Power of Dreams.

In this spirit, we have created a series of short documentary films celebrating those who have the courage to turn failure into success, and to forge dreams into a better future. Empowered by their deeply held beliefs and guiding philosophies, these individuals make the impossible real.

From scientists to race-car drivers, engineers to creative visionaries, the people in this film series are living the Power of Dreams every day. Honda proudly presents these thought-provoking stories - told through the experience of visionaries, friends, and associates of Honda - as captured through the candid perspectives of renowned filmmakers Joe Berlinger, Derek Cianfrance and Ondi Timoner.

The Undying Dream: Are we born with our dreams, or are they discovered along the way? In this film, professional surfers, motorcycle racers, and Honda associates agree that a dream takes hold of us from a much deeper place. And if you're lucky enough to achieve your dream, there's always another one coming up right behind it.

Into the Unknown: What drives explorers to dive deeper depths and climb higher heights? Is the human brain an uncharted frontier into itself? Join the inquisitive minds at Honda and journey into the unknown with climbers, divers, scientists, astronauts, engineers and other modern-day explorers.

Living with Robots: With their android ASIMO Honda has been a pioneer in robotic technology for almost three decades. This short documentary interviews some of the key people in ASIMO's project development and documents the technological challenges that they had to overcome. (For example, it took almost 10 years to teach ASIMO to walk.)

In just under 10 min the movie manages to combine some clever company branding together with raising profound questions about who we are and how technology in general and robotics in particular are a reflection of what we aspire to be.

Racing against Time: Do deadlines cause more stress than motivation? Or do we do our best thinking under time pressure? In this film, experts in professional sports, racing, engineering, entertainment and the environment consider the value of deadlines, competition and teamwork.

Dreams vs Nightmares: A powerful exploration of the tension between dreams and nightmares - both literal and metaphorical. Award-winning director Joe Berlinger has compiled an intimate portrait of the ways in which leading thinkers from Deepak Chopra to Clive Barker harness the transformative power of dreams, enabling us to envision and shape a better world. Can dreams help solve nightmarish problems? Watch this film and find out.

Failure: the Secret to Success: Failure. The mere thought can paralyze even the most heroic thinkers and keep great ideas off the drawing board. But is failing really that bad? We get an inside look at the mishaps of Honda racers, designers and engineers to learn how they draw upon failure to motivate them to succeed. From poor color choices to blown race engines, these risk-taking individuals provide an honest look at what most people fear most. Watch the film and discover the upside of failure.

Kick out the Ladder: We invite you to discover this inspirational metaphor that has helped impossible dreams come true. Join our cinematic journey and unearth this unique way of advancing - from Honda associates who have kicked out the ladder, as well as those who have achieved success as a result of it. Watch this Honda philosophy in action, and learn the meaning behind it.

Mobility 2088: Mobility 2088 is a short doc that runs under 8 minutes yet it manages to take a really long-term look at the most imaginative but potential modes of transportation 80 years from now. Some of the things discussed are the internal combustion engine, alternative sources of fuel and energy, robotic cars, personal jet-packs, magnetic levitation, Google-maps directed personal space-ships and teleportation.
