Just a thought; some of you have pets, and some of you may also be interested in becoming a cryonics patient.

Would you ever consider having your pet(s) as cryonics patients too (why or why not)?

Presently Alcor Life Extension Foundation allows pets to become cryonics patients so long as they're patients along with their owners. The Cryonics Institute allows pets as patients too.

Looking forward to reading your responses!

Sure. I wouldn't have any other reason than, "why not?" But I don't think having that option, and it somehow not coming to fruition, would be more devastating than not having that option in the first place. Reason? I don't believe pets think about cryonics.

I know my wife is totally nuts about her Yorkshire Terrier. So, if I manage to convince her to sign up for cryonics then the pet will be a natural consequence…

So I assume you are signed up . . but your wife is not (yet) convinced? Sounds like my husband . .

I am not signed up yet. As soon as I can afford to do it I will and my wife is unlikely to not sign up if I do…

I would sign up my cat Belle:

if it were cheaper… She is only 9 years old now, so maybe in the next 8 or so years it will become cheaper.

I have a sweet kitty cat, but I don't think I would commit the resources to have him preserved. Sorry Merlin.

I wonder if there is a person with animal hoarding problem out there with a freezer full of cats just hoping that one day… Sometimes my imagination wanders.

There is also a huge problem here of timing.  If you die and are cryopreserved and your pet is still vigorous and healthy what then? You allow him or her to live out their natural life with a new owner and then be cryopreserved to be awakened and reanimated with you?  The logistics of that and possibilities of things going awry boggle the mind!

My first thought would be a "pre-cryonics pet sanctuary." Pets whose owners have been cryonically preserved would live at the sanctuary until they are also cryonically preserved, or until the owners are revived from their preservation. My second thought would be sooner or later people would want to sign up pets other than cats and dogs for this. Birds, reptiles, amphibians . . How about a horse or a cow? Fish? Where money leads, cooperation follows.
